Serialul a avut un succes deosebit în randul spectatorilor, dar şi al criticilor, cu o rată de vizionare uriaşă. Iată subiectul serialului: Războiul Imjin dintre Coreea şi Japonia a durat 7 ani lungi în care poporul coreean a fost supus abuzurilor cotropitorilor. Bătălia finală s-a dat în 1598, la Noryang, între navele amiralului Yi Soon-shin şi rămăşiţele armatei japoneze de invazie. Amiralul Yi era într-o situaţie extrem de delicată, deoarece regele Seonjo, cu firea sa paranoică, impins şi de generalii din China dinastiei Ming şi de înalţii dregători coreeni care se temeau de influenţa crescândă a amiralului, emisese deja mandatul de arestare pe numele său. Asta nu l-a împiedicat însă pe amiral să dea o lovitură mortală armatei japoneze, ignorând ordinul regal de a nu se angaja în lupta cu cotropitorii. Grav rănit la finalul luptei, în timp ce zgomotele bătăliei devin tot mai şterse în fundal, amiralul îşi aduce aminte de trecut şi evenimentele vieţii sale pline de suişuri şi coborâşuri se derulează, încet, în faţa lui şi a noastră...
